How is it 110 in Portland and 60 here? This morning it took me a minute to realize that I am still in Colorado and not in the northwest--it's just been RAINING all the time! I've used my rainboots more in the last three weeks than in the past 9 years we've lived here. I felt like Noah bringing Mom & Dad home from the airport--it rained so hard for so long that the water was just running down the streets like a river. HUGE puddles.
So here's an update on my job: I finally have a plan! I accepted the position as the Thoracic Nurse Navigator, which basically means that I'm the person who is expected to bridge the gaps in our healthcare system for people who have a suspicious finding in their lungs or GI tract. There's a lot more to it--like setting up multidisciplinary rounds with physicians (sometimes from different facilities) and knowing which insurances require a referral from a PCP or an authorization; a lot of patient teaching and counseling. I don't even know all the things I have to be responsible for yet. . . I start on Monday, even though I've been helping the current person out in the afternoons every day. Should be very interesting.
It's been really nice to be home in the evenings and eat supper as a family since Clay is home by 6 every night, too, except for Tuesdays. Wow! A real schedule!
We are discovering all kinds of things you can do as a family with two boys and a big dog:
1. Have our own Rodeo
2. Play Hide & Seek (this provides Mommy with an opportunity to play a video game or text someone on my iPhone while the boys are looking for me).
3. Experiment with worms
4. Do tricks with the dog by throwing leftover pancakes like a frisbee (yes, and it's hilarious!)
5. Teach Liam new words, "Liam, can you say 'constellation'?"
This is the same child who is currently wearing a T-shirt that says, "Big Trouble in a Little Shirt" and whom I wonder if I can pre-register in the ED like they do in labor and delivery. . . . Tonight at dinner, when we took turns saying what we are thankful for, he said, "Grandpa." Terrible, Terrific Two!
